I guess i’m just not as engrained in rich/jealous girl culture to get too much out of these short stories other than sad but Taddeo’s writing style is electric !!

To be honest, I picked up this short story collection partially because I really liked the cover. The other reason is because I remember enjoying Taddeo’s Three Women and so was curious about her fiction. After reading these stories, I still feel like the cover is one of the best parts of the whole experience. The writing was incredibly good, but the subject matter wasn’t the most interesting to me—some of the stories felt repetitive and there was a huge focus on weight/dieting/looks in a way that I wasn’t expecting. My favorite by far was “A Suburban Weekend” probably because it focused primarily on a friendship and not a doomed relationship/situationship. Not my favorite ever collection but the stories were quick and the writing was fast.

A collection of stories that are separate but also connected. Lisa Taddeo’s writing is addictive and can make reading about mundane things exciting.

Women have the power. We just need to remember we do.

9 short stories about suicidal, heterosexual women with body image issues. lots of references to cashew milk. might have enjoyed any one of these in longer form but all together, one after the other, i found it A Bit Much.

solid 3 stars though because lisa taddeo is fundamentally a great writer, and she does this Insane Women genre much better than a lot of her contemporaries. lots of great lines in here - the best ones make you feel acutely disgusted - but i probably won’t return to this.

I love the way this author writes. It’s almost like she’s speaking to a friend or foe at all times, not directly to an audience. I enjoyed every single “short story” and though they all intermingled with talk of sex and weight, I dare say all the stories felt incredibly relevant to this time and age.

1.5 stars. I really did not connect with this one, which is super disappointing because I really love Lisa Taddeo’s work. As mentioned in my mid-read review, I’m not really a fan of the self-loathing coming from most of the main characters. The fatphobia and underlying tones of women who hate other women just isn’t my cup of tea either! The 1.5 stars is for some of the prose but that's really all I could give for this one.
