I struggle with short stories, but once again, Taddeo's writing is top tier, so the collection flew by. I've now read (and own) her three published works. She's an autobuy for me and I hope to read everything she writes going forward. I know I'm going to get blunt, incisive, and often shocking observations by her female characters. There's no sugar coating how women feel as they walk through the world and it's deliciously written. I'm in awe of her way to translate this to the page, even when it makes me cringe.

Lisa Taddeo gives a voice to the unfeminine feelings and urges women are taught to keep to ourselves - negativity, jealousy, cruelty; to be exploitative, feel disconnected to motherhood, question your mortality. While I enjoyed each of these stories individually, as a collection they did feel repetitive, and reading them all at once left me feeling overall sad and drab.

dnf’d at 40%. i can’t tell if lisa taddeo either hates women or just hates herself, but her stories always leave me feeling like i’ve just downed a glass of curdled milk. the 4 stories i read weren’t so much short stories as short stream of consciousness’ about how the characters hated their minds, their bodies, their vaginas, and their lives. bizarre!
