Wowza, the writing is biting!
The characters are almost all completely dislikable (which I find fun!) and while I enjoyed all of the different POVs, ultimately, the stories lack anything that I want to take away with me making this a somewhat forgettable collection.

I do REALLY love Lisa Taddeo’s writing, but for a collection of short stories, I need some variety! It felt like I kept reading the same character over and over again.

I love Lisa Taddeo but this one didn’t click for me. I struggled to finish it because it just felt like fatphobia, ageism, self-loathing, loathing other women or loving men who don’t love you back. Tired tropes that I couldn’t buy into/genuinely couldn’t relate to; I just felt like her protagonists were very flat and it perpetuated negative stereotypes about women.

3.5 for me on this overall, mainly because some of the earlier stories and characters were kinda insufferable (though that seems to be the whole point of this book and the short stories). I really loved her writing style though and I enjoyed the collection of short stories as a a whole.

DID NOT FINISH

I stopped halfway thru the second story. Can only take so much inner dialogue of self-hating women.

Ba ha ha - this book feels like it’s ripe for comedians to make fun of:

Taddeo is a one-trick pony

Did a terrible man hold a gun to Taddeo’s head and force her to write what he thinks all women are really like: obsessed with men/sex/dating/marriage at all times, self-loathing, terrified of being old, fixated on their clothes/looks, and either outwardly or secretly hating other women at all times!

This book wouldn’t pass The Bechdel Test
