As my first Nora Roberts (in memory), this was nothing phenomenal, but it was an enjoyable, lightweight fantasy story that checked a lot of boxes for a solid escapist read.

I loved the beginning, but then it devolved into massive WattPad-esque plot. The characters couldn't carry the scenes and the final "all is lost" just felt odd. It's like someone who only watched the 10th Kingdom tried to write a fantasy...I'll stick to her contemporary novels
