This book is weird girl fiction in its element I only wish that it had more of a purpose/point, I’m perfectly ok with an ambiguous ending or plot having loved I who have never known men, I am adept at reading literature where the reader is not fed the reason or back story for everything. But just like the main character the story became quickly lost and without aim, reading the synopsis I had thought this would be right up my street an exotic dancer who’s boyfriend mysteriously disappears but if you’re expecting a thriller/crime fiction this certainly is not. The second Act was far more enjoyable and I do feel like the author was trying to make a point about the main characters emptiness and searching for connection and intimacy in any capacity- probably linked to her somewhat grief stricken child hood, which felt quite Freudian in nature. Shock an exotic dancer with textbook daddy issues. If you loved Black Swan with Natalie Portman this is shockingly similar in its trippy insecure reality only that it’s set in the seedier world of sex work in San Francisco. It was fine but not amazing for me which is a shame!
