Ok, I liked this (the first in the series) much more than I liked the first one I read so I think I can continue to read these book.

This book was the first in a series, so I don't think it'd be fair to judge the whole series by it. That said, the author seems to spend every available minute in this book trying to establish how prim and proper and classist Carole is and contrasting her against Jude. The mystery just seems to be there for background, but what we should really be focusing on is how improper Jude is and how Carole would never do xyz because it would be against the town etiquette. The whole book reads like an episode of The Odd Couple mixed with an episode of Scooby Doo. I'm hoping that later books in this series aren't like this since Carole eventually started to loosen up.

As I was reading I kept feeling like I had seen a BBC version of this, but wasn’t able to find it. It was a well crafted story.

Middling. Good for reading when you don’t have the mental energy to think for yourself. Better than most of that airport fiction on the shelves but hardly enthralling.

3.5 because it had easy personality without trying too hard. I'll read more of this cozy series.

Probably rounded up. The GB rating of 3.75 looks about right. Likely to try next in series just to be sure - this one was ok to good.
