Before I start the review, I'd like to say a few things.
Thanks to C.C. Hunter for choosing me to be on her Street Team, which is how I received this ARC. Thank you very much :-)
Also, if you haven't read the Shadow Falls series (which starts with [b:Born at Midnight|8705784|Born at Midnight (Shadow Falls, #1)|C.C. Hunter|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1389763547s/8705784.jpg|13578604]), I strongly suggest you read that series before this one. Since this takes place after the events in Shadows Falls, there's A LOT of Shadow Falls spoilers in this book. But it's your call.

I'm a little disappointed with this book, but I can't say I'm surprised.
Della is no where near to being one of my favorite characters. I didn't "click" with her in Shadow Falls, so I guess it's understandable that I wouldn't be able to "click" with a book where Della is the narrator.
While the story was enjoyable, I didn't find it nearly as exciting as Kylie's story. In all honesty, I found Della rather annoying at times. How she handled certain situations made me want to strangle her. But I get where she was coming from, given everything she had to deal with. But I'm not Miranda. I'm not giving her a "pissy pass."ESPECIALLY WHEN SHE WAS DEALING WITH THE WHOLE STEVE THING. I KNOW YOU DIDN'T WANT TO BE HURT OR WHATEVER, BUT YOU DID NOT NEED TO BE LEADING HIM ON. YEAH I KNOW YOU CHOSE STEVE, BUT IT STILL MAKES ME MAD. AND WITH THIS WHOLE CHASE THING. I SWEAR IF YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND
You see a lot of familiar characters, and a new vampire is at Shadow Falls. For me, things didn't start picking up until there were about 100 pages left. Before then, in my opinion, the book was boring. But how things ended! The ending is what's making me excited for the next book! So many things happened and I have so many unanswered questions. There is a lot of potential for the next book.
While this book wasn't very exciting to me, it still left me wanting more. And Della is definitely a headstrong character, but maybe she's just too headstrong for me.

I don't know what is it with this series but I just love it so much! I love the characters and every case and conflict that happen in each book. I'm starting Eternal right away
I'm so in love with this world, another great book that didn't ruin the series by over working the story line. This was very much in its own right a new series.
Honestly, I connected with Della way more than I ever connected with Kylie. I think the After Dark series is better than the Shadow Falls series, but you can't read one without the other. Still, it's all worth it just to get to the books from Della's POV.
Rating: 96%
I originally picked up this book because Shadow Falls is my favorite series and I was seriously heart broken after the last book. So when I found out C.C. Hunter was writing a companion series I knew I had to read it.
Della Tsang is strong, sarcastic, and witty. From dealing with family issues to solving murders, Della is persistent and strong willed. This first book in the companion series is another brilliantly written book by C.C. Hunter. Della's fiery personality captivated me from start to finish.
How can I even begin with Chase. His charming personality and hilarious comments made me fall in love with him instantly. The feel in every moment Della and chase shared was amazing. I am definitely apart of team chase!
To sum up this review I can't wait for Eternal to come out fall 2014. This series has the possibility of becoming my second favorite series right behind shadow falls.

Not bad.
The love triangle has to go. That is it. That is all.
At first, I was getting really annoyed with Della. I mean, she was pushing away Steve and then getting caught up in him. I really wish she just admitted the fact that she liked him and then we could all move on with our lives. Alas, it did not happen. But, she did get a little better as the novel went on. She realized that she didn't have to do everything alone among other things. I liked how Hunter incorporated Miranda and Kylie into the story a bit more then in the other "Shadow Falls" series. IT really emphasized how important they were to Della.
I enjoyed the differences in Kylie and Della's perspective. I thought that this one was going to be just like Kylie's perspective but it wasn't and for that I'm glad. I enjoyed getting a look into the vampire world. I wonder if Miranda is going to get her own series???
I wasn't a big fan of Steve, but I have to admit that I've warmed up to him enough to think that Chase needs to go. I liked that even though Steve was pretty much given the cold shoulder, he still kept trying to go after Della. He was always trying to call and he was worrying about her. Who was it that came after Della when she might have been in trouble? Oh wait, STEVE!
I'm not going to lie, I honestly thought this book would ruin the Shadow Falls world for me, but it didn't! I'm hoping that Hunter gets rid of Chase. For that reason and many more, I'm definitely going to continue with this series!

2nd time reading
I like this sequel series focused on Della more than the first series about Kylie. She's a cute character, but she can be so self sacrificing and is like this perfect person who never does the wrong thing and it's hard to relate to her. Della is more realistic and gets mad, sometimes hurts others feelings. and has flaws. That makes her more likeable, seeing her mature and let people in to see her true feelings. I like the love triangle she has with Chase and Steve, although Chase is my favorite. I'm excited to continue my reread and see what happens with Della!

I absolutely adored the Shadow Fall series so when I found out that there was going to be a spinoff series that focused on Della, I was super psyched. Little did I know that the series will also focus on Miranda as well. I think I would have preferred to have the spinoff series focus only on Della just because the main series focused only on Kylie and the first three books of the four books were focused on Della. It was as if the author wanted to make another spinoff series with Miranda but didn’t have enough content so just tagged it along with Della’s series. It was a little strange. I mean, I liked how Miranda was focused on but I wish rather than just adding a random last book to the series with a different character focus, that she was actually portrayed as the main person in another series instead.
Out of all the roommates – Kyle, Della and Miranda – I thought I was most connected with Della mainly because 1) she’s Asian as well even though she’s half white, she still received a lot of racist Asian comments as well and 2) she’s standoffish with a hard exterior but a warm personality and sometimes I’m like that as well – I think it might be my Asian upbringing where we’re just not known to show a lot of emotions outside. So those were the main reasons why I was super psyched to find a series dedicated to her (and Miranda, I guess).
I really liked Della and not only because of the previously mentioned reasons but also because she’s such a badass. She’s a vampire but she also likes to take on a lot of risks by herself which I admire. Though sometimes I think her risk taking decisions were a little foolhardy – she could have used some help in some cases. Also, because she’s a little tough on the exterior, it was difficult for her to ask for help which is another reason why she prefers to take on a lot of risk by herself. So I enjoyed reading about her in these books because you can really see how much she grew as a person and became more willing to actually rely and trust on the people around her.
The relationship between her and Chase was also very heartwarming. In the beginning, I personally didn’t like Chase because I also thought he was a little too secretive for me and would have preferred her with Steve, the shift-shaper, instead. However, as the story moved along, I realized what Chase was hiding and the reason why he was doing so which allowed me to really understand him more and actually start to really like him. At that point, I was definitely more team Chase than team Steve. It was also cute to see how their relationship grew from animosity to somewhat friends to actually trusting each other to become something more. It didn’t feel awkward or forced which happens a lot in YA novels.
Even though I was complaining about Miranda’s random book, I still enjoyed it. I mean, I still like her as a character and am still interested in her in general but it was just weird to randomly have a book that was focused on her only. Anyways. I did enjoy the conclusion between Miranda and her guys – Shawn and Perry. I had my own personal interest in a certain guy but would have been happy with either choice. I’m just glad things all worked out in the end though the whole armadillo thing was kind of bizarre.
Overall, definitely enjoyed this spinoff series and would be interested in future books in the same setting. I have definitely fallen in love with all of the characters and any sort of spinoff series would be awesome. I would recommend these books to people who love paranormal, romance, mystery and adventure.
