One of these books I keep going back to in my mind. When I first read the book, I didn't know that a year later I would also lose an incredibly close friend to pancreatic cancer. When my friend was diagnosed, he asked me if he could have my copy to read and I gave it to him. I never asked him if it gave him comfort in his final months, but I'm hoping it did.

While the youtube version is ok, I prefer the book much better. It is more personal and it's not simply a transcript of the live version.

This is a beautiful gift from Randy, clearly meant for his kids and his wife, but I’m glad they decided to share it with the world. As the book went on, it felt more and more like something I would recommend to someone who is about to become a parent. While the life lessons here can resonate with anyone at any age, it feels more like an example of how much of an impression your parents can leave on you, and how much you will leave on your own children. Randy seems like a straight up guy, and even though I think we have different ways of seeing people and the world, I relate to his philosophy of enjoying and having fun with every moment that we get in this precious life. He has left quite a legacy, and I’m glad I got to see a slice of it through this lovely book.

Perhaps this had an especially powerful effect on me because I lost my scientist father at a young age and would love to have the gift of his wisdom. And Randy Pausch has an uncommon wisdom.

After reading this book, I have massive respect for Randy Pausch, his optimism, his strive for excellence and his ways of life in general (I particularly enjoy the chapter of the dents in his convertible)
The problem here is the "self-help" aura the book gave out. The lessons are short and easy to read, with (mostly) one example to demonstrate. This is an accomplished man who can do whatever he decided, and more conveniently, he is capable. Sure, he had minor flaws but overall, this is the man we can look up to, but never quite measure to his standard. The struggles (or the brick walls, as Prof. Pausch) are not portraited enough in this book (but again, this is the capable man, and I can't blame anything). Cancer was his greatest battle, and I admired his attitude towards it, but other battles (Imagineer, NFL, etc) are not relatable for me.
Overall, I think it is a book you can read and forget the next month. But if it helps to create the momentum you need to stop procrastinating, then sure, read it.

After seeing the youtube video of the last lecture, I believe that it is more worthy of your time. And since it was intended for his children, so yeah, I withhold my judgment for this book.
