This was a long and kind of dry read, but also quite interesting. This is a bit of history I really hadn't known much about, and I liked learning about it. The author is a little bit biased toward the eastern perspective, but that's not surprising or off-putting. I think her perspective, including her bias, is actually beneficial and informative.

Too much jumping around of new characters to feel immersed in their lives and stories. Hard to understand their world
