Loved this book. For a pretty short horror book it had a ton of heart. It’s very timely and the approach to complex and traumatic themes was great. I’m sold on both of these authors after this one. I hope they do more collabs. Pleasantly surprised with this night worms offering!

In this coming of age story, Baker, the new boy in town becomes friends with the wrong kids.
There is a a feeling of dread throughout the story, as you watch Baker's morals decline under the influence of his friends. This builds until it culminates into quite the shock ending.
I read this novella very quickly as I needed to know what would happen next.

This is not in-your-face monster horror, this is the kind of horror that comes from realism. It almost made me feel a little uncomfortable as things progressed in the book, not knowing how it was going to end but knowing it could not be good. I couldn't put it down.

I’ve been on a Lutzke binge since I read “Stirring the sheets,” and this collaboration introduced me to Tim Meyer. This was expert writing. Could it have been longer? Sure, but that could be said about any book you enjoy, authored by writers who are insanely talented, I think. I loved these characters so much and the growing tension, gradual escalation and ultimate crescendo was just *chefs kiss* Once I’m finished with Lutzke’s back catalogue, I’ll definitely be jumping into Tim Meyers!

A solid read, if difficult in parts just due to the subject matter. Reminiscent of "The Girl Next Door." For that reason, and the use of a particular item in a key moment in the climax, would not recommend to squeamish readers.

The writers did a particularly good job with characterization. Some crazy stuff happens, but they kept the goings-on still grounded and believable.

I really liked this one. Story sucked me in completely and I was hooked until the end. It's fairly tame by horror standards...not too gory or anything like that...but just a really good story, well written. Definitely recommend.
