You Had Me At Hola was a fun, quick read. It's about a soap star and a telenovela who are starring in a new streaming show together, a drama with a latinx cast, director, and producer. Both of them bring their own baggage to the story. Jasmine is hiding from the tabloids after a very public breakup with ex Macintyre. Ashton is still dealing with the trauma of a stalker fan that threatened his child. (Yes, this book makes the Secret Baby trope work.) Things are awkward at first when Ashton manages to spill coffee on Jasmine at their first meeting, but then they start working together more and sparks fly.

This book definitely gets five stars for seamlessly incorporating so much diversity. The cast of the show has representation from all different latinx backgrounds, as well as sexualities and gender identity. Another thing I appreciated was the diversity of sorts represented in the families of the two main characters. Jasmine has a large family and is close with two of her cousins who are more like sisters. Ashton is a single father, and his father and grandparents are helping raise his child. It was nice to see something outside of the typical nuclear family.

There was great banter between Jasmine and Ashton, and they had super strong chemistry. Things were wrapped up a little too quickly at the end for me, but I enjoyed seeing how their relationship developed. I'm looking forward to more from Alexis Daria and can't wait to read Michelle's story.

have mixed feelings over this but what made it into a 4-star was because the culture was very well shaped and given emphasis that it’s hard not to fall in love with it.

Such a fun book! I enjoyed the chemistry the main characters had and their inner dialogue seemed so realistic. I appreciated that the epilogue confirmed what I had been thinking about the characters (especially about Ashton).

Tip: If you don't speak Spanish, have Google Translator ready on your phone. The vast majority is in English, but (realistically) there is some Spanish.

A cheesy, funny rom-com audiobook that is perfect for a summer roadtrip!

Jasmine wants to be a leading lady, and finally lands a series on a streaming service. Ashton is an aging telenovela star trying to break into bigger things. They get cast into Carmen in Charge, starring a strong Latinx cast with Carmen trying to revive the image of an ex whose rock stardom has blown up from his poor decisions. It should come as no surprise that the characters, and respective actors, go through fits of lust and depression and smoldering emotions. Secrets pop up in the actors’s lives that seem ready to tear them apart as well as ruin the future of the show. But sometimes, you have to put personal things aside and not upset abuelita.

It was exactly what I was hoping for. Latinx stereotypes were destroyed right and left. Will love prevail? It’s a rom-com, duh! Truly no thought required - in a good way.
