this was fine. an easy read but didn’t connect with the characters or the connection much so it was just fine

I loved the story and the characters. I especially loved the difference between the TV show scenes and the real characters descriptions.

The only thing I wasn't happy about was how easily Jasmine forgave Ashton for the way he acted after his secret came out. The secret itself could have been easily forgiven with some communication. But the way he acted and blamed her after... that's the part that really bothered me.

Nonetheless I really enjoy Alexis Daria's writing and will read the other books in this series.

DID NOT FINISH: 1%

Was really struggling to get started with it all. Took me 3 days to get past page 1? Not gonna waste my time. Wasn't hooked.

Just learned this was a part of a series - incredible. Tied up with a bow at the end. No bad thoughts. Just vibes. And a beginning, middle and end. Not even the most surface level romance, either. Characterization was a little off because - how the f did this man think he was going to stay out of the limelight as a telenovela star and who has such an easy time overcoming their mommy/daddy issues but it’s how I wish the world was, at the very least!

Light rom-com + lots of steam = FUN!

"In his arms she felt the same, she felt happy but she no longer felt the sense of completion when she was with a guy, no she felt the same because, she was already complete and wasn't that a lovely
"The man was an enigma, albeit a sexy one. If she were smart she'd keep her distance. Too bad Jasmine has never been smart when it came to men."
"The powerful impulse to know her even more deeply rose up inside him"

This was such a fun read omg! I thoroughly enjoyed this story, I really loved the setting of this story and how both MMC's are staring in the same telenovela. This story is filled with so much drama and tension that I could not put this book down. I like how well fleshed Jasmine and Ashton are, as the reader you get to see up close and personal how past experiences in relationships has impact on their current attraction and hesitancy with one another! Although some moments I was screaming that they needed to be honest and upfront with one another, it definitely added to their character development! The entire story is emersed in such vibrate rich culture in the Latinx community with references, family dynamics, lifestyle, family, and more. I truly loved this story so much and I really love how the author was able to tell two stories in one( the telenovela story and the story between Ashton and Jasmine.) It felt like the same feelings and emotions and similarities that Jasmine and Ashton were playing in the telenovela, was so similar to their feelings for each other. I truly loved Jasmine's character so much because she is so relatable, homegirl is definitely one to wear her heart on her sleeve, she just like me for real.

I loved seeing the behind the scenes of what it takes to bring a telenovela to the screen, I think this really set the tone, and provided more depth to the importance of telenovelas in the world and latinx representation across the scene.

Jasmine's close knit relationship with her cousins (Michelle and Ava) made me smile so much. I love that Jasmine was able to lean on and always count on her cousins to hold her accountable with how she would interact with men and live her life. There were a few scenes that I laughed out loud at because their commentary with one another was so funny and lighthearted that it reminded me of my own relationship with my family. Also shout out to Michelle for knocking sense into Jasmine and making her think before she spoke / made permanent decisions.

I really enjoyed the special hidden moments between Ashton and Jasmine such as going to the store together, Ashton teaching Jasmine Spanish, and more. The intense attraction between the too was perfect and I love how they both had to experience tough conversations with one another to get to where they were at the end of the story.

The miscommunication kind of got a bit tiring and I wish that Jasmine and Ashton resolved things a bit faster but I understand their past experiences heightened their way of resolving current issues and that is completely understandable and okay.
