Cute. Love the Latinx vibe

I'm so glad I was approved for You Had Me At Hola because let me just say I LOVED this one. I went into this novel with no expectations, just that the title was cute and the cover was beautiful. Jasmine was such a great character. Very strong but also allowed herself to be vulnerable and genuine. She exudes girl power and I loved it. Ashton - I went back and forth with him. He was a little too dramatic but that's okay, I ended up liking him a lot. I also enjoyed their awkwardness that began their relationship and then eventually leads into a lot of steaminess. I also thought that the scenes where they're behind the set, shooting the show was super fun. I will say that I'm not that into romances so if you love romance novels, definitely read this one. I'm off to go check out whatever else Alexis Daria has written!

Thanks so much to Netgalley and to the publisher for the advanced copy!

As someone who LOVES telenovelas I thought the premise was so cute and I was pulled in straight away, but I don't know..it wasn't that well written IMO and I was just expecting better?? A+ for representation! And gorgeous cover!

This was so good.

"Leading Ladies do not end up on tabloid covers." That is the main goal of our leading lady, Jasmine's plan as the book starts and as it's a romance novel -- well....

As someone finding where she falls in romance books - as it's not a genre I have read much as an adult - this hit so many cogs in my wheel barrow! (I know it's wheelhouse y'all, lol, it's a inside joke with @apishmirthpole)

Latinx characters that are amazingly relatable, inclusivity of queer characters, great supporting family characters, soap opera drama (which is MY JAM), a male lead that was all kinds of decent and good, and what I liked most is that Daria did not fall into tropes easily. The misunderstandings we're minimal and cleared up very quickly. The leads respected and liked each other which I loved a lot.

I had a good time reading this and really hope everyone else gives it a chance.

This was very fun, very steamy, a lot of good conversations about representation. Full review to come!

So good. The progression of the story and characters and interwoven culture made for a satisfying read.

**I received an ARC from Edelweiss. These are my honest opinions, and in no way was I compensated for this review.**

The man was an enigma, albeit a sexy one. If she were smart, she’d keep her distance.
Too bad Jasmine had never been smart when it came to men.

The cover of this book caught my eye and when I read the summary, I hit request so quickly. I’m very grateful I did and for the publisher to approve me because this book is not to be missed! You Had Me at Hola was an amazing romance with great family dynamics and a look into the behind-the-scenes action of a television show.

Jasmine has just booked the lead role in an American version of a popular telenovela called Carmen in Charge. She’s also coming off a well-publicized break-up with a famous musician so she makes a list of rules to not date or cause any “scandals.” Ashton is a last-minute addition to Carmen in Charge; he’s a popular telenovela actor who has a reputation for being professional but closed-off. The two of them try to maintain a professional distance to no avail.

I really liked seeing the action behind the scenes of filming a show, and I would definitely watch Carmen in Charge! The angst in the show really added to the angst of the book overall. The cast had such a deep bond as well; I also liked seeing the diversity the cast had, both in background and experience.

I loved how important family was to both the protagonists. Jasmine is incredibly close with two of her cousins; they talk often throughout the book and serve as emotional support to each other. Ashton is also very close with his family and goes back to Puerto Rico often to see them. They both recognize how much family means to both of them.

“Except it was supposed to only be on the show. Why am I like this?”
“Because you’re an Aries,” Michelle said matter-of-factly. “You love love.”

Their attraction was palpable, although at times, I felt like there wasn’t much development between their decisions but whatever. Both of the protagonists try to resist temptation but they keep finding themselves drawn to each other. It was very hot!

I really enjoyed this book! You’ll find yourselves enraptured by the characters and the show; I couldn’t put it down. Preorder You Had Me at Hola and add it to your tbr lists because you won’t want to miss this book!
