This is a cute book with great Latinx representation. I did keep having to remind myself of the ages of the two main characters, but also that not everyone at ANY age is great at communicating, letting people in, and/or blocking “pants feelings” from becoming emotions. Some readers don’t agree, but I liked how the steamier scenes were written.
The context of the story definitely made me miss being on stage or on camera, and it’s also inspired me to pick up a memoir written in Spanish (Cuando era Puertorriqueña) to keep my non-medical language skills active.

The characters did not feel fleshed out and appeared rather stereotypical to me.
Very cute rom-com and I love the whole storyline of the actors coming from soap operas and telenovelas. As a fan of both those genres of TV, I really enjoyed the backstories. I especially liked how Daria had an incredibly inclusive cast of characters, as well as spoke to the rising tide of Latinx creatives all around.

This book was a joy to read from front to back. Even at points when I was so exasperated with Jasmine, I was engaged, excited and enamored with this Latinx love story with heart. It is a cleverly written romantic comedy with a complete telenovela inside.
Many white authors have tried to write Latina heroines but there is a hollowness in so many of those representations. This book was vibrant, genuine and laugh out loud funny. I will be really sad if her primas don't get their own novels.

The diverse Latinx cast was great, but Daria’s execution was very surface-level, and the story fell a touch flat. It’s cheesy and predictable like many rom-coms, but I didn’t care for the gimmicky tv script bits. Thankfully, the extended family members added some welcomed comic relief as I found Ashton to be a total stick in the mud and Jasmine shallow and annoying. Their chemistry was off. Idk. Total cover love, though!
