While it did rely on my least favorite romance trope (miscommunication) I think the characters had enough backstory to justify it a LITTLE BIT.

Overall a fun read. Lauren felt a little “Bella” coded at times but you know how much I love twilight. Omg imagine if Edward was a bi vampire with blue hair. Swoon.

this took me longer than i thought it would to get through it. although saying “get through it” paints this in a worse light than what i intend. this was a great christmas read because it wasn’t as sappy as the holiday romance trope tends to lean and since this is my third holiday book of the year, that meant it was a nice lil break. asa was fantastic, and lauren’s internal monologues were just…perfect. i saw way too much of myself in both of these characters, so thanks for that miss alicia haha

There are only two things keeping me from giving this book five stars. The first one is one storyline that I feel like was underdeveloped. One of the characters, Lauren, is working with a kid in foster care, and I feel like there was so much potential in that storyline that wasn't fulfilled. It didn't really go anywhere. The other reason is that, as much as I adored this book, I wasn't always as eager to pick it up as I would with a book that was a full five stars for me. That part of the five star feeling was missing. That being said, those are my only issues with this book. I absolutely adored it and all of the characters! The found family in this book made me so happy. It's one of my favorite tropes, and I was surprised when I realized it was in this one, and I am so glad it was. Lauren was such a relatable main character for me (and not just because we have the same name lol), and I really loved her. She was funny, serious, organized, and frustrating and I loved every second of reading about her. Asa was also such an incredible character. He is exactly the kind of person I would want, so I fell in love with him really easily. He was just so sweet and so genuine and so cute and I absolutely loved him. He was also relatable in some ways, because he and I are both bisexual, and there were a couple instances where he'd say something about it or something like that and I would fully understand what he was saying. I don't know if that really makes sense, but I don't know how else to phrase it. Speaking of the fact that Asa is bisexual, m/f romances where one (or both) of the characters is pi is always really validating for me, especially when it is handled in this way. There's a lot of people who believe that people in a relationship with the opposite sex aren't really part of the community because they are in a het appearing relationship, so I love books that validate the fact that bi people who are in a relationship with someone of the opposite sex are no less bi because of it. That was pointed out explicitly in this book in one scene, and it was something I really appreciated. I feel like each of the characters personal growth was incredible to read. They went from being people who really struggled to communicate, both in general and with each other, to people who had learned those skills. The miscommunication in this book could be frustrating to a lot of people, but I feel like I really understood why Asa and Lauren had trouble with it and I felt like they grew over the course of the story and reached a point where they could effectively communicate with each other. I loved watching that journey. I absolutely loved this book, and I am so glad that I read it and loved it as much as I did!

Oh my gosh, did I loved this book?! An unconventional holiday romance that isn't quite a holiday romance, Thompson had me from the very first page. Almost to the point where I forgot I was even reading and was right in Cold World with the characters.

Perfect for readers looking for a slow burn enemies-to-lovers just in time for Christmas, you will love the witty banter and strong chemistry between Asa and Lauren throughout the book as they both try to save Cold World. Filled with both heart and laughter, Thompson tackles various difficult topics surrounding Asa's and Lauren's pasts and how that leads them to each other as the joy that comes with found family.

If you are in need of a read before Christmas but aren't a fan of the typical holiday romance novels and you enjoy enemies-to-lovers, you absolutely need to read With Love, from Cold World.
