Georgana’s Secret is like a warm and comforting cup of tea! It has the perfect blend of romance and action on the high seas.

This book tells the story of Georgana Woodall and Lieutenant Dominic Peyton. Georgana has a painful past. She’s been living on her father’s ship disguised as the captain’s cabin boy and dreams of the day she will be free from her past and secrets. Peyton is a dedicated navy officer, who is determined to prove to Captain Woodall that he is a capable officer. He isn’t looking to fall in love because his heart already belongs to the sea. When he sees the crew bullying the captain’s cabin boy, he strikes up a friendship with the boy. What follows is a charming tale of friendship, action, and romance.

Arlem Hawks’s words hooked me right from the start. Everything is exceptionally well done. The book touches on many different topics, including friendship, loss, grief, war, abuse, and loneliness and blends everything together seamlessly. The author did a brilliant job conveying this heartfelt story.

The relationship development between Dominic and Georgana is absolutely adorable. The narrative gives them the chance to become friends first and really understand each other. Georgana is drawn to Dominic’s innate kindness and his enthusiastic love of the sea, while Dominic sees Georgana’s strength and resiliency, even before he uncovers her secret. The way the truth comes out and they realize the depth of their feelings is beautiful.

I also really enjoyed the author’s realistic depictions of life aboard ship. The vivid details brought this story alive. This exhilarating sea adventure was the first book I read by Arlem Hawks, but I look forward to reading more soon. For now, I’ll be adding this book to my comfort reads.

This book is well deserving of all the hype that surrounds it!

Regency HEA, but the romance is only part of the story.  Well researched, I realised I by the end of the book I had learnt a huge amount about the navy and living onboard.  Truly fascinating.
