I feel like I'm in the 1% that actually enjoyed the book. But at the same time, what's not to love?

The attention to detail towards history and descriptions In general. Kristoff drew the picture and I was still able to follow. Although there's some repetitive words/descriptions but overall he did his research/poured a lot of sleepless nights into the details of the background. Not to forget the seamless blending of mythical creatures with what feels very 21st century-ish, I mean, we have no chainsaw katanas (sadly) but the description of pollution and Revolution and corruption and sciency diency felt very modern = relatable. The biggest whoooooo of the entire book is Buruu. L o v e him.

The only reason this doesn't receive a 5 star is because certain plot points felt very been there, done that

I couldn't ever find anything to relate to, so I lost interest & just skimmed through.

For all intents and purposes this is a good story. It just wasn’t for me. I LOVED Jay’s Nevernight series and I CANNOT wait for the last book in that trilogy! I was hoping that this story would hook me just as deeply, but it didn’t. I just didn’t seem to connect as well with these characters.
