The story sounded promising. Reading it made me cringe, as a Japanese speaker this book made me want to give the author a Japanese 101 in all the proper usage. (A proper 101, not a anime Japanese 101 )
Also, I appreciated that the author used proper terminology for clothes and weapons during the time period, but I know that anyone not familiar with these things would be very confused because there was no proper explanation for the items.
One thing that that really did bother me is one sentence the Japanese term was used and then the English term was used in the following sentence. Too much inconsistency. (Hai, which is bit to the equivalent to yes, was used rhetorically and it made my skin crawl.)
I love Jay Kristoff's other work. Nevernight was a master piece and I recommend it to everyone.

OMG! Acabo de terminar esta maravilla, y no tengo palabras. Hacía tiempo que no me enganchaba tanto a un libro, estaba todo el rato sin saber qué iba a pasar y sin tener ni idea y hacia mucho que no me pasaba con un libro. El final me ha dejado con muchas ganas de más (menos mal que ya tengo la continuación ;)) y he de reconocer que se me ha escapado alguna lagrimilla que otra. Libro totalmente recomendado.

Es evidente que cada uno de nosotros tiene gustos distintos tanto en los géneros literarios como en los estilos, particularmente odio esos libros que se exacerban en descripciones… me marean, porque lo hacen todo demasiado centrado en lo visual sin dejarme imaginar cuestiones que no requieren un detalle puntilloso como la posición del sol, el largo de un vestido o el color del mango de un puñal. Aparte de aburrirme me enojan, ya que dos renglones después de “ver” en mi imaginación una chica de cabello oscuro vestida de azul, me sacuden con un detalle sofisticado del modo en que estaba trenzado su cabello rubio que hacía juego con los 25 ojales de su delantal… o sea… no lo juzgo como incorrecto, pero aclaro que me sofoca un estilo como ese.
Bueno, “Tormenta” ha sido eso para mí, entre la página 1 y la 150 me sentí tan bombardeada de descripciones que he abierto y cerrado el libro (en mi caso prendido y apagado el ereader) unas 200 veces sin exagerar. Comencé a tomarle más el gusto a partir de allí, supongo porque los personajes principales interactúan más entre sí y me pareció que al fin la historia caminaba hacia algún lugar; sin embargo como un resumen general no puedo decir ni que el libro me haya cautivado ni que es literatura que no aconsejaría, tal vez para un público más juvenil las perspectivas cambien un poco pero desde mi humilde óptica las cosas me parecieron predecibles, algunos personajes poco definidos y sin demasiado trasfondo argumental que desembocara en una moraleja concreta o en un desborde de adrenalina aventurera que me empujara al siguiente libro de la saga. Las guerras del loto han terminado aquí para mí.

My GOD this book was amazing. Literally AMAZING.
I flew through this, captivated by page by page of Yukiko/Buruu bad-assery. They're the dream team, a perfect pair, and their friendship touched me right in the heart. They were amazing together and their love for each other touched me personally. However, I am incredibly saddened to say that I will not be continuing on with this series. I have heard that it kind of falls flat in the rest of the series, as well as having a certain character die in the end, so having no intention on spoiling my opinion of the perfection of the first book, I decided to pretend that Stormdancer was a standalone and leave it at that.
I would have given Stormdancer five stars but there was a little bit that I didn't like, and the fact that the rest of the series gets bad took off another star, so there.
The one thing that I didn't like was the romance.

This book had my attention at "Asian-infused Steampunk", but add in mythological creatures and a post-apocalyptic setting and I'm hooked. The first few chapters were a little slow as the setting and characters were established, but after that it took off.
The setting reminded me of [a:Paolo Bacigalupi|1226977|Paolo Bacigalupi|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1278742221p2/1226977.jpg]'s post-oil worlds, though in this case the controlling government isn't doing anything to regulate pollutants. Instead, the entire region (we don't get a sense of the broader world, except that Shima is at war with it) is dependent on and poisoned by the blood lotus plants that provide fuel and medicine. I highly recommend this book for anyone who liked Bacigalupi's work (it is probably a little more optimistic than his books, or at least less graphic.)
