I recently revisited this book after seeing it in the children's section of a bookshop- I recall reading it at school and even after all those years, I could still almost remember the story word for word.
A beautiful and captivating story of hope and friendship that can be enjoyed again and again, no matter your age.

The first by Morpurgo I ever read. Opened up my world as a young reader. He writes with tenderness and compassion and his characters are vivid and wonderful. Humans' relationships with animals and other aspects of nature feature heavily in all his works and inspired me deeply as a child.
The Butterfly Lion will always be my favourite Morpurgo book alongside Alone On A Wide, Wide Sea - both of which I read and re-read many times. Highly reccomend!
