This is such a feel-good book. Like all of the other Hope meadows books, animals are just as important as the humans in this story, which I absolutely love. And the characters bring the book to life, especially Douglas who just explodes with personality. I really loved Susan and her son Jack’s relationship too, it was touching to see their bond and what they’ve been through together. There were some sad and hard-to-read moments in this book, but it never failed in making me smile or laugh either. It’s a warm and cozy read perfect for the festive season.

I really enjoyed this book, fourth in the Hope Meadows series. This one was different from the previous books as it focuses on Susan Collins instead of Mandy Hope and has a lot less veterinary related topics in the story, but there is still the odd animal tidbit to keep the animal and veterinary themes going. Susan is a single mother trying to date and just when she thinks she has found the one, Jack's father pops up from the past.

This was far less veterinary influenced than the first three books but it definitely still had the same sweet tone to the writing and I really appreciated the occasional mention of Mandy the vet and her adventures. It was interesting to find out more about one of the side characters and I surprisingly enjoyed reading about Susan and her son Jack, and how their lives are turned upside down by Jack's father emerging onto the scene.

It was a very feel-good, cute and Christmassy read with a totally gorgeous front cover. I thoroughly enjoyed this story - it started well and ended wonderfully, and most definitely leaves you with feeling warm with Christmas cheer.
