I had high hopes for this book as I felt it was something a bit different and I liked the concept -a cafe that allows you to travel in time but only as long as it takes for a cup of coffee to go cold.

I was however, underwhelmed by it and think the hype had set my expectations higher.

It covers 4 different relationships and reasons for wanting to travel. I liked the concept of each of the short stories and it should’ve made for an emotional read but I felt a disconnect from the writing.

Some of this could be that in the translation of the writing which seemed overly descriptive and didn’t really flow.  I also didn’t warm to any of the characters as the writing was focussed on the circumstances surrounding their story rather than character building. The majority of the writing was observational, centred around a sequence of events and the connection the characters had to each other, and the cafe, rather than being in their thoughts, feelings and emotions.

Very much an enjoyable read, the stories were heartwarming and I found the characters were great.
