This was interesting. I feel like Ivy's interpreted differently in every single comic I've read with her in it. My favorite take being the New 52's birds of prey, surprisingly.

This book did a great job maintaining Ivy's ferocity in every aspect of her life from protectiveness over her work, protectiveness over life and protectiveness over her sporelings. I liked Luisa and Darshan as characters. Harley and Selina popped up for a bit. The sporelings were interesting.

I quite enjoyed the art and it was interesting because I don't entirely think it was overly sexualized. I liked the detail put into ivy's look with the vines intertwined over her legs.

Tentative recommend for me. I didn't find the story as engaging as I would have liked but I was pretty entertained.

Dr. Pamela Isley, who was once poison ivy, has gotten a second chance and a kind mentor has taken her in at her facility (Isley has her own project on the side) and is one day found murdered! Interested? Prepare to be bored!
I thought this would be more of a detective piece with her outfit on the cover. (Like it? You'll never see it inside the book)
They also make her straight and very bland.

There's a couple of ideas I like... I enjoy seeing anything Gotham City Sirens and they do have a call back in here. Connection to the green. I like the idea of her cabbage patch kids and the green/human hybrid. The art was decent, there especially a few cover pieces I enjoy~

Pretty average, but also fun. Harley Queen and Selina are both there and I really liked seeing the way they interacted, all the banter and drama that one would expect. I feel like we moved from one thing to the other too fast, there were too many sub-plots to explore and because of that none felt engaging enough. I relly enjoyed the concept of Ivy really wanting kids in order to not be alone, then not knowing how to deal with them, and I really liked their character designs. I wish the story allowed itself to slip more into the horror elements than it did, since they're very clearly there but very briefly tackled. Overall, this book had way too much going on but for what it was it was still a fun read.

I had high hopes for this story, but it was just a little too "meh" for me. Which is upsetting because I love Poison Ivy.

I am not a fan of superheros or anything they really have going for them. I find it boring. I generally only read Batman, but even then I am pretty selective about which ones I continue with because some fall into some really boring territory for me.

I picked this one up because I have had a fascination with Ivy, mostly because my best friend ships Harley/Ivy. So I thought I would give the series a chance so I could brag I read it before my best friend did. There is no Batman in this one and no Joker, the main two characters I like in the DC universe. So already I am sensing trouble.

There were parts I loved. Ivy gave up crime and focused more on studying plants, sort of in a “what am I?” sort of way. She was having an identity crisis partially because she was the only person like her left and because she wanted kids that were more closely related to her than her plant babies. I was a bit worried the plot would be sexist and awful, but I kept going because I saw the author was female, so I had hope. The author had Harley as single, but still not stable. She was more stable than she was when she was with Joker, that was impressive to me. There was a sense of real development outside of the men in their lives (YES!) that doesn’t always shine through in the other comics. The female villains were only really there as eye candy (this book is guilty of that a bit too) or in their relation to men (Harley-Joker, Catwoman-Batman). There were few plot points of character development points that irked me, overall I really liked this book.

My main issue with this series is there is so much skin and fan service. As a scientist in a very prestigious research facility, Ivy would not be showing off her midriff at work. There were so many issues I had with the outfits (Harley in short shorts riding a motorcycle, can you say ow?) that go beyond just this book, but pervade through pretty much every DC (and Marvel) comic with women. It was disheartening to see it happening in this story because the plot allowed for emotional development, but it was watered down by sexy poses and bad outfits. The art was gorgeous, don’t get me wrong. It was just not exactly fitting or appropriate.

Poison Ivy was never a character I found myself particularly drawn to, although I was the kid who used to watch Batman at age 4. This collection was unique, though, and the cover is just intriguing. Yes, I was being influenced by my superficial instincts when I bought this on Comixology.

The plot has its moments. We get to know Poison Ivy’s “alter ego”, Pamela, and about her struggles with the world. She still has random mood swings and doesn’t understand human emotions. I liked her personality because she’s also a badass as usual.

But then comes the art. The plants and their design, the patterns on Ivy’s skin and the background were really well done. I looked at a lot of the frames in detail and I don’t usually do that. Just google the name of the book and you’ll see excerpts of what I mean.

Now to the 4 out of 5 stars of my review. This series was sadly rushed. It starts off strong, introduces characters like Harley Quinn, then Catwoman, shows an interesting premise, before turning into a mess in the last issue. It’s obvious this was meant to be a longer series and I’m assuming it got cancelled on the way. I don’t know the exact circumstances, but the ending at least doesn’t ruin the whole edition. There are a few mistakes concerning the design of the plants, but they will only annoy you if you are a perfectionist.

This was written by a woman and I don’t know many women writers who’ve made it big in the graphic novel industry. It’s slowly changing, but women still seem to get bashed when they meddle with, oh no, Iron Man or others. As strange as it may sound, I identified with Pamela and that’s why I liked the story.
