I can't say that this book had me immediately hooked, but I really like Celaena Sardothian as a main character. She is strong, fearless, witty and brave, so I am excited to see where her story goes. Unimpressed with the options for a romantic interest though, she can do better. Found this first book a bit underwhelming considering all the hype this series gets, but I have faith that it may be similar to ACOTAR where the first book is slower and made for setting the scene, so I will persevere!

I enjoyed this book. I think Celeana is an interesting main character and I really like her. I'm glad that she broke up with the Crown Prince because he wasn't interesting to me. I felt that their connect was forced at best. His interest in her didn't seem genuine. I liked Chaol infinitely more. But I really think that romance could've been left out of the novel all together and it would've been even stronger. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
