While I started this out of morbid curiosity because everyone and their dog were talking about it on TikTok, I really, really enjoyed this

NO FUCKING WAY THAT SERENA IS KOEN'S MATE OMGGG
Ali Hazelwood you better give me a sequel to this or it's 🔦🔦🔦

But yeah been a minute since I read a book but aaaaa so happy!!!
I cried when
Lowe lied about Misery not being his mate
Super fucked up of him honestly

But yeah, I'll obviously continue reading books in the Aliverse, even if this is probably a different universe than her usual ones
I NEED THE KOEN AND SERENA BOOK ASAP 💳💥💳💥💳💥

I Loved Misery

Quote:📖
I have no friends on the left and only enemies on the right, so I ground myself and look straight ahead at my husband.

Thoughts:💡
Okay, I’ll be honest, I don’t know why I haven’t tried an Ali Hazelwood story sooner because she’s AMAZING! Seriously, this book was crazy good, I mean Berkley published it so I shouldn’t be surprised, but still! I loved it!
Misery is such a sarcastic and self deprecating character with a propensity to bounce back from difficult things. She’s honestly inspiring and lovable. She’s basically the tall, dark, and snarky sidekick every girl falls in love with in a 20 something female body.
Lowe… is… well… the more typical male lead in a romance novel. Super tall, overly handsome, super buff and masculine, with a sweet side, who’s incredibly accomplished and wealthy with hidden talents and an impressive 🐓. And I want to make fun of this story because of it… but it’s just too good for that. I’ll allow for his All American (shifter) persona because Misery provides a hefty dose of morally gray. What can I say, I just love her. 🤷🏻‍♀️
The plot was seriously perfect. There were bits of mystery, political intrigue, found family, and romance. It was all really well balanced and pieced together to make a fascinating story. (I powered through this book in less than 24 hours.) If you haven’t pieced it together yet, I seriously love these characters. There were detailed back stories and motivations for everyone that inspired a wealth of emotions from sadness and heartbreak, to laughter and happiness, and even a bit of stimulating thrill. It was plot heavy but the latter half had a heafty dose of smut and even some knotting.
Narration for this one was a bit different. It’s technically a dual narration with both a male and female lead, but the male lead only read the chapter headers and epilogue which was fitting because they’re the only bits in the story that were from Lowe’s POV. Which I honestly don’t have a problem with because Thérèse is a wonderful narrator. I loved her voice and her storytelling capabilities were captivating. She had the perfect inflections for each moment and her volume and pace always remained steady.
In short, I love this book and I can not recommend it enough!

Fun Bits:
⚜️ The Coolest FMC Ever
⚜️ An Adorably Precocious 3-13 Year Old
(It’s too hard to guess ages)
⚜️ Knotting!
⚜️ Found Family & Pack Dynamics
⚜️ Hilarious Banter

✨This is a standalone but the epilogue has a teaser/ cliffhanger that strongly suggests there will be more books in this world that focus on other couples.

Ali Hazelwood knocked it out of the park with this "romantasy"!

Bride was way much better than I had expected when I heard Hazelwood was releasing a Vampyre / Were love story. I won't lie; I did not think this would live up to her steminist romance collection, but it may have surpassed them.

Misery has to be my new favourite fictional character. Although I have some questions about this Vampyre, I shall ignore them because Misery is too hilarious to question.

One thing I will not ignore, however, is what on earth happens in the "alpha challenge"? Is it a battle to the death, some obstacle course, or a growling contest? I would have liked to know how Lowe became "alpha". Also, is Serena Lowe's and Ana's sister? Oh, and will there be a Koen and Serena sequel?

That's all my questions... well, for now!

Anyway, Bride was a hilarious read filled with some Vamprye throwbacks to the classics, like Twilight

Loved this story! At some points the dialogue was difficult to follow and the timeline skips a bit, but overall this was written with wonderfully witty banter, intelligent and "sciency" factoids (seriously, I had to look a few words up in the dictionary). This is a unique take on both vampire and were culture and characters, I loved it even though I cried a bit towards the end. The door is open for a sequel and I can't wait. PS - this is NOT omegaverse, but it is a dark romance!
