It's a light, romantic, smutty fantasy that does its job well. The world-building was well done and easy to understand. The inner dialogue of the FMC is super fun to read. This is just a fun book!

I love Hazelwood. I've read all her other books. Misery though did not hold up to the strong women and character development I've enjoyed in her other novels. The story itself had a few bright stops (Ana in particular), but overall it wasn't interesting to me.

I suppose I can make a bad joke here (I'm sure I will see in a minute when I scroll other reviews)... This was knot the book for me.

I had read one Ali Hazelwood book before this and wrote her off as not an author for me. But after seeing people rave about this one and how it was so different from her other books, I decided to give it a try. And I am so glad that I did.
Misery is a vampire that has lived among humans (not always by choice) for most of her life. Lowe is a were, alpha of the pack. As a form of a treaty, the two are wed in an arranged marriage, but they each have their own motives.
This story is full of deception, surprises, and some mild spice scenes. I could not put this down, and lost sleep because of it.
Not only was the couple compelling, but the tensions from the conflicts between the species, as well as the thread of mystery, made it a non stop read for me.
Spice: 2/5 🌶️ (on page in some detail, not overly graphic)

A very Ali Hazelwood take on the omegaverse.

Cute but extremely predictable. The characters were likeable but pretty bland and immature, and the worldbuilding mostly fell flat for me.

For supposedly being a spicy and sexy book, nothing actually spicy or sexy happened until over halfway through. And not only that, there were only two real sex scenes so and the hottest part of the book was when?
isery was feeding off of Lowe
how that was spicy and sexy and a turn on more than the sex scenes is a little disappointing.

Also, it seems like vampires will orgasm for literally any reason, I was almost to the point of of a stiff breeze blew too hard past her, she was going to have an orgasm.

The other thing I learned is that apparently Weres like to stop mid passion to have a conversation which really kind of takes me out of it.

Also her inner monologue kept saying she wanted to punch someone so I kept waiting for her to actually punch someone. Fact that she never punched anybody is a little bit of a letdown.

Overall, this was an easy read but I wouldn't really call it all that spicy.

Well, it was okay. The dialogue was awkward at times, and the world building left some to be desired, but I did like the male lead. The ABO stuff was definitely there, and provided conflict, but there was a lot of other stuff going on (that wasn’t satisfyingly wrapped up for me—I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a sequel). My overall impression was lukewarm.
