The "Year One" in the title is confusing, as if to throw potentially readers into checking this one out. I normally enjoy Ra's al Ghul stories, but this one really falls flat, possibly because he is only indirectly involved, but I rather liked the twist at the end.

This seemed so promising. Ra's al Ghul, Batman and, wait for it.....zombies! buuuuut we didn't really get too much involvement with the zombies. :( *sad face*

The background story about Ra's was interesting and the idea was great, but there was no real meat to the story. I wanted more. I guess I could get more if I read books in which he was actually still alive so I really don't have anything to complain about.

Except for the lack of zombies.

I understand why other reviewers were unimpressed with this trade, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The explanation of what the Lazarus Pits are, as well as giving us a further look into Ra's' past, was interesting. The effects of the Pits' destruction was a bit weird, but when you consider what they did when they were around it makes sense.
