Quick easy read.

World building was done wonderfully considering the length of the book. The whole story read like a gritty dark fairy tale for adults but without the cringe or the vibe of “trying”.

The characters could have had a little more depth but for all intents and purposes, they added to the story and made the simple plot a little more fun.

It’s so nice for me to read a fantasy novel without all the smut and romance but with enough bread crumbs for you to feel there just might be something… so organic and not forced.

It’s the first I’ve read from this author so I am keen to see how her other stories will pan out too.

I really enjoyed the dark, adult fairy tale aspect of this book. It's built on the bones of fairy tale tropes, but it's also very much doing its own thing and creating it owns rules and features but without getting bogged down in a lot of weighty worldbuilding. For me, getting acquainted with this fantasy world felt very effortless and enjoyable. There is a bit of a love story that felt shoehorned in to me and I could've done without, but overall I had a lot of fun with this read.
