I like how the mall seemed to be based on Mic Mac mall in Nova Scotia, especially how Leth drew the Christmas tree with the creepy face that they put up every year in Mic Mac.

Not sure if I will change my rating later, I just finished the book . Very well done . Also hard to read at points.. I wanted to jump in the book and beat every one of the horrible males in her life. The art is fantastic, the story pulled in all my emotions... But I can't say if I liked it or not currently. It's one of those books where it's like they made me feel all the things , does that make it well done yes.  Does it mean i enjoyed it, not really. I am happy I finished it , however the trip was horrible. The author did a fantastic job.

I love a graphic novel that deals with issues or a historical time period and this one did both....if we can stretch and call the early 2000's (ish) a historical time period. From the cover I didn't expect this one to have deep substance but it did.

I was not a teen during this time but I had one who, in many of the non-issue-y ways, was a lot like Liv. So the story rang true. The illustrations were fantastic. The plot line timely enough to, hopefully, make a difference in the minds of the young people who read it.

for one, the art style is hideous. but putting that aside, I appreciate that this book accurately depicts the difficulty of balancing the deep desire for love and belonging teens have with....well, men. honestly, if there's a teen out there reading this: just avoid romance until you're an adult, watch out for other girls, and remember that teen girls are prey to males of all ages.
