So much of this story felt familiar. Mall Goth catapulted me right back to being 15 with home-dyed hair, listening to music that probably stressed out all my friends' parents. Not to mention the queer alt friend group--big heart eyes.
All the Easter eggs were so much fun to find! The band posters, the slogans, the cheeky mall store names. It makes me nostalgic for the days of asking someone's mom to drive us to the mall, spending too much money on a soft pretzel, and admiring all the things at Hot Topic we couldn't afford.
I recommend this to every elder emo and overachieving teacher's pet. Mall Goth made me feel angry and seen and delighted and sad. Cheers to not being 15 forever.
