Interesting! I had no idea that Amsterdam had been all about cars earlier, I had somehow assumed cars never caught on. No, they did, and they were killing cyclists, and people said "enough" and now bikes are everywhere.

The illustrations in this book were not my thing, but Drummond writes about the power of activism (and bicycles!) with hope and vigor. While it is certainly a bit of an ode to bikes, this book is mainly about the importance of protest--in this case, mainly by women, too! Very timely.

Great look at an ecological subject from an interesting perspective of how a city worked and protested to make it more bike friendly, lots of classroom applications.
