I enjoyed this but did find it hard to get through. I kept waiting for something thrilling to happen and about halfway through I realized that it was happening, I just wasn't overly impressed. I liked seeing how Eddie's mind worked, etc. but there was one too many convenient coincidences for me to really settle into this book.

Sehr spannend und guter Schreibstil. Stellenweise etwas unrealistisch.

This book was ok, but there were so many people and I wasn’t sure who was who most of the time. I read this because I want to read thirteen and I like to read a series in order. I think this would be more of a guy’s book, with lots of double-crossing and bad guys.

This was AWESOME.

From the opening chapters, The Defense hooked me with its fast pace and sharp dialogue. Eddie Flynn is everything I love in a legal thriller protagonist—flawed, clever, a little reckless, and somehow still managing to pull off wild stunts that feel juuust believable enough. He’s got that “former con man turned lawyer” swagger that makes you root for him hard.

The middle slowed down a bit for me, but it never lost my interest. The courtroom scenes were intense, the stakes were high, and Eddie’s internal battles gave the story heart.

Overall? Action-packed, entertaining, and cinematic AF. Felt like watching a movie in my head. I’ll definitely be continuing the series!

Just finished The Defence by Steve Cavanagh and I’m still catching my breath. Imagine being blackmailed by the Russian mob, forced to defend a crime boss in court, and wearing a bomb strapped to your chest. Eddie Flynn, former con artist turned lawyer (the line between the two is thin at the best of times), somehow has to pull this off with his skin intact and his moral compass only slightly scorched. It’s sharp, fast, and full of legal wrangling that actually feels convincing rather than just dramatic fluff. Cavanagh’s legal background shines through, though thankfully he doesn’t make us wade through too much jargon. Flynn is a character you cheer for not because he’s noble, but because he’s clever, flawed, and always one bad decision away from disaster. A few of the baddies are a touch too theatrical and the plot asks for a decent suspension of disbelief, but honestly, you’re too busy turning pages to care. It’s not reinventing the genre, but it’s a cracking reminder of why legal thrillers can still hit hard when done right. Four stars.

A pretty good Thriller with a couple good twists to the story.

The description of some of the female characters was pretty whack tho and the vibe was a bit off at times (can't really put my finger on it why exactly), therefore -1☆.
