"The Defense" by Steve Cavanagh offers a fast-paced legal thriller with an intriguing premise. The protagonist, Eddie Flynn, is a charismatic con artist turned lawyer, which adds an interesting twist to the courtroom drama. The plot moves quickly with plenty of action and suspense, making it an engaging read for fans of legal thrillers.

However, some of the plot elements feel a bit far-fetched, and character development could have been deeper. The legal strategies, while entertaining, sometimes stretch believability. Overall, it's a decent read with exciting moments but lacks the depth to make it truly memorable.

This was ok. Mob stories are not my favorite thing to read about so that probably influenced why I never totally got into it. But I know this is the first in a series (and I’ve read one of the later books), so I’ll keep going with it, especially since I enjoy the main character.
slow-paced

Underwhelming. Kept waiting for it to get good and I was disappointed. The whole book takes place over 2 days. Very dragged out.

Incredible book. Read like a movie. First in a series. Eddie Flynn lawyer and con man. Daughter is kidnapped by Russian mob. He is forced to be Russian mafia leader lawyer in court case. Really enjoyed this.
