In ‘The Defense’ narrator Edward Flynn is a defense lawyer in New York City. Because of his father’s life as a con man, who taught Eddie everything he knew, Eddie is a slippery character known as a clever sideways thinker. How he ended up as a lawyer is quickly told in the book. He is currently married to Christine, now separated, and he has a daughter, Amy. The life he led in the past has gifted him with friends who admire him a great deal, many owing their lives to him. Some of these friends are law and order types, like the FBI and judges, others are criminals he met while defending them in court.
However, at the moment he is very afraid. Russian mobsters have kidnapped Amy. They will kill her if he doesn’t do what they say. They want him to plant a bomb inside a courtroom. He will be wearing the bomb inside the lining of his jacket. They will be watching everything he does.
Oh oh.
My heart is still racing! ‘The Defense’ by Steve Cavanagh, book one in the Eddie Flynn series, drives forward from the first page to the last with the thrust of a jet airplane! Yes, it is an improbable plot, but trust me. Readers will not notice until they stop to think, which will not happen. The action comes quickly one scene after another. The book is so exciting and intense there will be no desire to put the novel down! Besides, the plot is convoluted as well as fast-moving. Eddie certainly can think on his feet! There are fights, torture, explosions, gun fights, and near death escapes! Mobsters and FBI both end up wanting Eddie’s head on a stick!
Gentle reader, I doubted Eddie Flynn would get out of this life-threatening scrape or plot twist a dozen times! (But, since there is a book two, clearly he did.) (hehe)
This is a fun read, extremely entertaining with high octane action. I loved it!

Okay that was exciting. Honestly, lawyer/courtroom thriller isn’t my thing but I thoroughly enjoyed this. I read Thirteen not knowing it’s part of Eddie Flynn series and I’m excited to go back to the beginning.

This book is White Collar meets Taken and I am HERE FOR IT.
I tend to lean more towards mystery/case solving kind of thrillers but this was action packed yet very entertaining. I will definitely be checking out more of the series.
