As the first novel in the Eddie Flynn series, I was surprised by how it just throws you directly into the action. It was so abrupt that I almost felt like I had missed a few chapters. However, the quick intro was just setting up this incredibly fast-paced and intriguing story. What I loved most about this book was the SUSPENSE! I loved trying to figure out how Eddie was going to worm his way out of his predicament. I became so invested in our protagonist and what happened to him. I find that I am a SUCKER for legal dramas, and this story was no exception.

I would say 4.5 stars. This was a fun ride! Idk if I would really call this a thriller so much as a crime drama. But I enjoyed it either way. Awesome pallet cleanser for the amount of fantasy I’ve read recently.

Eddie Flynn is an interesting character with a curious past. I enjoyed his foray into the Russian mob. I will most definitely be reading the next.

I absolutely love the Eddie Flynn series, I actually read the series out of order so I had already read a lot of the later books before this one, but the fact that I still enjoyed it is a testament to Steve Cavanagh’s amazing writing. I loved Eddie’s backstory, the ingenious way he worked in courtrooms and his rather creative methods to get what he needs. The early relationship with Harry is endearing after reading what happens later and it was fun learning more about Christine and Amy. However, it was slightly less enjoyable for me because it missed the presence of later characters I had come to love, like Kate and Bloch which means that I didn’t like it as much as I could have. Overall, still a great read!
