I didn’t like her last book that much but this one…
I laughed and I cried and I cried-laughed and it was beautiful

this is good.  it’s funny. I like the messy complicated characters and relationships, and it's full of queer culture

as you would expect it's also pretty sad. ough.

One thing I HATED is the near-constant swearing by queer celebrity named (kristen fucking stewart! etc) oh my god. maybe it's accurate to 30yos and was supposed to be cringe but 3 times in the first chapter and it did not slow down from there

I am a little bit like wow a queer adult romance where I heard one of the characters is acespec. let's guess whether it's be the loud outgoing MC or the anxious uptight emotionally unavailable MC! (it's the latter lmao) (but that's not really the fault of any one book just.....a trend...)

I will also note that while she's clearly some kind of aroacespec, she does explicitly not identify with those labels, only lesbian. which is valid I guess (and of course I'm all for explicit positive lesbian id's in books!) but I've seen people label her in reviews as demisexual etc which is not quite accurate on that front

This book was so chaotic and so full of love. I alternated between laughing and crying the whole way. And I can’t even begin to talk about how much I appreciate both an adhd character and a demisexual character. My favorite romance novel so far this year.

Oof. This Sapphic romance about a dying man’s last road trip really packed an emotional punch. It took me a while to buy into the premise but once I relaxed into it (and once the MCs started having semi-adult conversations instead of sniping) I really loved it.

Thank-you to NetGalley, Atria Books, and Alison Cochrun for the eARC.

This book absolutely solidified Alison Cochrun as an auto-buy author for me.  Anyone who knows me knows how much I ADORED THE CHARM OFFENSIVE and how I take the opportunity to recommend it to absolutely anyone who will listen.  I didn't think it possible, but I loved this book even more.

The emotional whiplash I experienced while reading this book was INTENSE, one moment I was giggling and having a good time and the next I'm weeping so hard I couldn't even see the page in front of me.

This book was so incredibly beautiful I genuinely cannot even find the words to describe, you just HAVE to read it for yourself.  It immediately became one of my go-to recommendations at work and, in real life, reading it is now a requirement to maintain a friendship with me.  ;-)
