This is not the Thelma and Louise road trip I was expecting.
Whatever you do.. have tissues.

This book is for you if you love these tropes
-Sapphic romances
-Best friends to enemies to lovers
-Road trips
-ADHD and anxiety rep
-*** second chances****
- if you had an English / humanities / Art teacher in high school that you would drop your life for.

First the characters were utter perfection. free spirit Logan and uptight perfectionist Rosemarie teach at the same high school . They hate each other but secretly don't really. They once were best friends. They were each other's first kiss . They share the love of a special retired teacher Joe, and after slamming into each other in the Applebees parking lot, decide to give him his dying wish. To drive him across the country to Bar Harbor Maine with his dog.

Joe was my fave character, and I think I am starting a new favorite side characters of the year to honor Joe. Joe was like a father to both of these women, he was the voice of reason, and honesty .

“Life is the prickly pear. It’s always going to be a combination of beauty and hurt, no matter how hard you try to protect yourself from the hard parts. There is no way to avoid pain.”.
Joe had little bits of wisdom to share with them both, and I may have to buy the physical copy to annotate, just for his quotes. He called Logan on her running away and pushing people away, because at the end of life Joe learned it is better to have shouldered the pain and compromised instead of running from his person. He told Rosemarie she needed to write the book because we only have the now to experience life.

The road trip they took, the people they encountered, the food that they ate , the drag show! All of these things made this a book i will never forget, and will read again.

For fans of A Walk To Remember meets One Last Stop !!

I should've DNF'd this...

I literally couldn't have cared less about these two MCs - I was literally only invested in their teacher/mentor Joe and from the beginning you know how that's going to end. So why did I make myself suffer?

I loved The Charm Offensove (both originally and on the recent reread), but Kiss Her Once For Me didn’t hit the spot quite as well, so I wasn’t sure where this would fall. But I loved it and found it hard to put down and it made me cry, which doesn’t happen often.

I very much appreciate the way Alison Cochrun writes about neurodiversity and mental illness and messy people. It means a lot to see it on the page, and even among other romance writers I feel like Cochrun stands out as someone who does these things really well.

When beloved English teacher Joe is given only weeks to live, he asks his two favorite students, Logan and Rosemary, to drive him cross-country so he can die in his favorite Maine cabin. In spite of the fact that they cannot stand each other, they agree to the road trip and the adventure they find will change them forever. This childhood friends to rivals to lovers story explored grief, abandonment, and mortality in such beautiful ways. Rosemary and Logan's banter is engaging, whether they're fighting or making love, and they take such care of Joe and one another. I loved learning about Joe, and his chosen ending is so painful and beautiful all at once. This very much reads like a romcom, even with the graphic depictions of mortality, and I would watch the movie. (And probably judge it harshly. lol) Some parts were a little slow, but the story was good overall and I was literally crying while driving at the end. This romance is on the heavier side, but it's totally worth the tears.
