This is an important book. It's not a persuasion piece, you don't get pity talking points to change the mind of pro-lifers, but you do get a current events look into the rapidly changing legal and social landscape of abortion law and it's affects on people - both patients and people who work to provide services.
The impact of the Dobbs decision was immediate and far reaching. Doctors and clinics could not accurately interpret the vague guidelines of laws and how they might be enforced. Women with life threatening pregnancies need to have their conditions get so advanced that there is imminent likelihood of death before possibly receiving an abortion.
The whole time I was reading this, I thought about how it was an outrage, and pro-life's would read it as evidence of success. It's a twisted battleground. It also brings forth the vital need for prevention of the need for abortion through empowering women, making birth control easily available and effective, and comprehensive sex education.
