call me crazy, you don’t get it like it get it 💔
it’s just about a kid that’s afraid of growing up. Mourning childhood, or nostalgia, is something all of us can’t grief.
I think some of the writing is a bit repetitive and Holden goes on these very long tangents, for good reasons but it goes on for a while. But other than that it was pretty good :) !!

Those that get it, get it. Oh, and i get it. I read it in high school the first time and I related to Holden so much at the time. Rereading this as an adult, about 10 years later, it remains near and dear to my heart and i have a better understanding of it. It brought tears to my eyes. I cant even put into words what is going on through my mind about this book right now. Makes you think about grief, internal struggles, and growing up. But seriously, if it doesnt hit for you the first time, take a look at some analysis videos of it or try to reread it in the future. It doesnt deserve all the hate it gets.

3.5-ish? I'd heard so many good things that I suppose my expectations were too high. We follow Holden around as he dodges school and family members (except his sister), but being in the head of Holden Caulfield is an odyssey in itself. While it had some good lines, it felt a bit TOO slow for me most of the time. That said, I might pick it up again someday to see if I feel different.

I am not ready to even begin writing my review for this book because it will be too epic. Too long. Too personal. Too detailed.
Just know I will update, once I have the words for it. Right now, I’m just going to leave this 5.75 star rating here. If I could go higher I would.

I hated this book in high school (1 star) but I just re read it through the lens of sibling grief and found it to be a powerful, resonant portrayal of what it feels like to lose a little brother. I’m intrigued by Salinger’s insight and courage in tackling this topic in the post-war landscape.
