Incredibly impressed by the skill it takes to create a first person POV with such a strong and consistent voice throughout an entire novel. I’m surprised at how much I enjoyed this teenager’s melancholic ramblings, but sometimes the classics are classics for a reason.

Still a great read. Had me cracking up throughout and I even cried a little!

10 years later and I’m still in love with book and catch something new each time.

If this wasn’t a classic I probably wouldn’t have picked it up in the first place and wouldn’t have finished it after a few pages. Holden seems to me like a self-absorbed privileged teenager that hates everything and everyone and thinks he is much better than everyone else because he is the real deal and not just pretending.
If he was a real person, I might be able to forgive him since he is clearly grieving his brother and Id recommend therapy for him. But as a book, I’m not too interested.

call me crazy, you don’t get it like it get it 💔
it’s just about a kid that’s afraid of growing up. Mourning childhood, or nostalgia, is something all of us can’t grief.
I think some of the writing is a bit repetitive and Holden goes on these very long tangents, for good reasons but it goes on for a while. But other than that it was pretty good :) !!
