The perfect summer book. I swear this is what Elin Hilderbrand strives for in the majority for her books and it was so successful here.
I’m not a big romance reader especially smut, zero shame for those who do, but I don’t get enjoyment out of it. But I can see this being a big hit with all genre readers. It was an excellent blend of romance, mystery, summer beach vibes, literary familial drama and I loved every second and ATE. IT. UP.
As someone estranged from family members it also had a really nice quality and depth to a storyline that spoke to my soul. Big fan. Sometimes the best thing a book can do is keep you entertained and out of your spiraling mind and this book did exactly that!

2.5 stars for the sibling drama plot which I'm a sucker for. I could not deal with the cringe main character romance storyline.

What to do, what to do with this rating…
So. I’ve never done such a 180 on a book before from first half to second half… I waited a week to try and write a review and sit with it a bit because I just didn’t know how to handle it… and here I am, still unsure!
This book is about a family who has lost their father. The father is one of the biggest somebody’s in technology and business (think Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, etc.) and needless to say - the inheritance potential has quite a few 0’s coming after it. But in order to get access to it, his kids and wife have to spend a week together on the family’s island completing challenges he’d laid out.
I *really* struggle with the rich people with “problems” story line. So keep that in mind. If it’s your jam? You’re golden. Read it now. I do not jump aboard the train as easily and really need some redemption story mixed in or for SOME character to not be completely awful. Give me someone to root for, right?
The first half was a slog. There was an unnecessary history lesson about the island and I wasn’t invested in ANY of the characters. Then some switch flipped at the half way point and it became clear that dear old dad wanted his kids to have some character and not become entitled spoiled brats… and I couldn’t put it down! I absolutely love the turn it took and the ending was poetic and perfect.
From a 3 ⭐️ first half to a 5 ⭐️ ending, I guess we’ll meet in the middle with a 4 ⭐️ rating. I’m not sure how solid all those stars are in light of the first half… but the ending can’t be overlooked, so there you have it.
