It was hard to get over the social constructs of the time. I would also be pissed if the boy that liked me married my sister.
What a lovely tale. So glad I can sort of do whatever these days and that there are planes. Louisa may alcott seems to have never met a small child before.

i think i will appreciate this story more after watching either or both of the films. there was just so much going on, and i wasn't totally invested. i had it on audio, which is why i didn't dnf it, but it just... i don't know. i think if i reread it, i might like it more. i just don't think this book is for me.
that's not to say i think it's bad, i like the way it made me feel as i read it. that doesn't mean i really connected to or resonated with any parts of it. it's considered a classic for a reason, and i definitely think its age shows. i think watching an adaptation of it would be more helpful for me to understand the story.
i had no concept of how much time has passed as the novel progressed. i know that this takes place over the course of their lives, but it feels like we're just flying through years like it's nothing. i think i liked the sisters' dynamic and how close they were. i really enjoy strong familial relationships in my novels, so this one was perfect for that.
i think i'm mostly confused at the end of it. it didn't leave me feeling like i think it was supposed to, but this book was also written 150 years ago so... maybe it's not going to. either way, i enjoyed it, but i think i'd like it more once i watch either or both of the films.
