Do I give this book credit for acknowledging the entire miscommunication plot could have been solved with one conversation? Yes. Was it kind of amusing? Yes. Do I think it made sense for their characters? To an extent, yes. Did the constant miscommunication and complete misunderstanding of each other get a bit annoying after a while? Yes. Multiple things can be true at once.
Gabriel and Elodie were both enjoyable characters, they complimented each other well despite how different they were, both having a great passion, albeit with some differing reasons and approaches, to geography and being general brave and daring types.
The magic system was an interesting one, magically messed up, and often explosive, geography is original. I really liked the ideas although I think some of the worldbuilding could have been a touch clearer.
I liked the plot overall but did find the middle where they were wandering about the countryside somewhat aimlessly dragged a little. There were some nice poetical turns of phrase, and also literal poetry, but I would have liked more plot.
Overall, a pleasantly whimsical and inventive romantasy.

Magical fantasy aspect is hard to follow, miscommunication romance trope is beat to death, not much plot to speak of. I’ll stick to Emily Wilde’s books instead.
