I loved the magical plot and romance set-up, but the actual characters and their dynamic were not it (for me).

Elodie and Gabriel had potential, but they were both so annoying, (what felt like) purposely miscommunicative, and self-hating. And while they do eventually get together, it did not feel like they actually grew past their issues.
