I liked the plot premise of this story more than the first, but I had a hard time getting into it. There was more magic, and it was confusing and often hard to follow. I found myself zoning out a lot as I read. And while I liked the characters in general, I couldn’t get behind the second chance romance of it (that they’ve been pining for each other since their split). The pining and tension was great, but the basis for it was hard to understand. They failed to communicate a lot which got a bit old too.

I definitely liked this one more than Ornithologist’s field guide to love, but the miscommunication trope was definitely frustrating. I did like the little trope jabs throughout, and I really liked that this was dual PoV as well.
