This book was like a dream. A dream in the sense that it made absolutely no sense when you start trying to describe it to somebody. I felt like every sentence was like somebody recounting their weird dream to you. There were moments that were interesting but overall I didn’t care. The premise sounded promising but it felt flat for me.
Loveable characters: No

weirdest book i have ever read.
it is well written, and i understand that the book is trying to be a critique of consumerism or capitalism.
but it falls flat against all the weirdness.
in the end, no real point is being made and the message didn't carry any meaning cause it is so so so so weird.
every, i mean EVERY aspect of the book is weird (not in a good way).
the plot was?? there iguess??? and the characters, were barely developed, and deeply unlikeable. the only character that made somewhat sense is li, leaving the WA BEFORE
ALL CREW AMPUTATED PART OF THEIR FINGER?!?!?!!!!!!!

i cannot even fathom all the weirdness, to name a few:
  • main character roleplaying as an actual baby as a normal hangout with friends (and this being one of the more normal parts of the book)
  • the boss casually going around AND BITING PEOPLE
  • the main character breaking her finger on purpose just because???
i don't understand a single choice that was made in the making of this book.

First it was a fun mess. Then it was deeply sad. Finally, it ended in a confusing and ambiguous way. I liked it.

‘You’ve got me thinking, he announced. About your finger, the drinking, not answering the phone to your husband. The things we do to damage ourselves. It’s all connected.’
