This was enjoyable until it didn't stick the landing and then it felt like the whole thing was a waste of time.
I heard that it was satire: not convinced. An oddity: definitely. Did I enjoy it: in parts. The protagonist: a sick alcoholic. I think it’s a brave attempt which almost works.

I’m going to be honest I went into this book blind, did not read the synopsis. After reading this book I truly can’t tell you what it is about because I’m just confused. After I read the book and before I read other people’s reviews and then the summary I truly thought the book might have been in some level a horror type book ( with out spoilers just the talk about limbs etc., is where I got this idea?) But I guess it’s satire about capitalism. I definitely did not pick up on this but also I’m a reader just trying to understand the story and not analyze the message. Maybe I’m just stupid which most likely is the case. I just don’t understand the book nor the message.
This was a weird one. A woman who left her husband and now has been working on a cruise ship for the past 5 years. She has a strange boss who requires an amputation of her.

I think I'll always be seeking out more Ottessa Moshfegh-esque stories now. And while this did feel like that and did have crazy characters who made me uncomfortable, unfortunately this didn't keep my attention.
One of my fears is to be on a cruise--especially to WORK on a cruise ship--so I thought this would resonate with me more.
