Interesting and a good summary (with lots of examples from art and literature), but not as philosophical or "deep" as I had hoped and expected.

Like Eco's book on ugliness, this book is a great expose of how we look at what's beautiful, from both a an era, religious and political point of view. Sometimes it's brilliant, and sometimes it's a bit.... well dry.... and very academical, would have gained immensely on a more popular approach.

Pfff.... That was one hell of a essay. This little gem kept me alive through some tough stuff... (G, I sound cliché)

This book was unbelievably gorgeous and so comprehensive! Definately recommended for any scholar of the arts, as it not only touches upon Beauty in Art, but on all topics associated with it-- literature, music, theatre, etc.
