Although this book might be hard to find, it is worth searching for! I loved the fantastical, yet down-to-earth characters of the small fantasy village of Eventide. This story felt inspirational and touching throughout so many parts of the book as well as having some great humor now and then too. Tracy Hickman has done a wonderful job with this.

TW: racial prejudices, death, some antiquated tropes

A genuinely fun, funny and fantastical romp. If you need a good solid pallet cleansing book if you're in a rut, this is the slump breaker you need!

Tales of the Dragons Bard: Eventide is one of the best books I've read in quite a while. Sporting a full cast of witty characters, Eventide follows the misadventures of Jarod, a local nobody, pulled into an epic quest by the well meaning if idiotic Dragons Bard, Edvard. With Edvard's "help" Jarod tries to win the heart of the fair maiden Caprice, their escapades bringing them into the lives of other inhabitants of Eventide, and madness ensues. The resulting havoc is lighthearted and thoroughly amusing, with happy endings for all. I recommend Eventide to anyone looking for a bright, lively and extremely entertaining read.

Eventide
So I didn't know that this was actually the first book in the companion series so I read the second book first. Luckily it didn't spoil too much so the book was still enjoyable. It was fun to see some of the same characters again and see them fleshed out a little more.
This story followed our main character Jarod Klum on an adventure to win the heart of his true love. Helped along by the dragon bard, the bards writer and an old centaur farmer, his plans don't always go exactly how they planned them too. Just like the other book, this story has some fun story lines and side characters you get to see and I learned a lot more about the world that they live in. The writing was witty and entertaining and I found myself getting lost in the story.
The only problems I had were that the story was a little slow and it took me a while to get into the story but once I did I enjoyed it. It was also somewhat predictable and I felt like I could usually see where the story was going.
Overall I enjoyed it and it was a fun read.

The fancy setting really makes this book so funny.

This is the story about a guy who wants to ask the girl he likes out, and the fancy setting decorates the non-special plot so that it becomes both hilarious and heartwarming.

A good simple book that made me laugh. Not too deep.
