Adichie’s style is so wonderful that you will enjoy even the horrible in this story. Moving and thought provoking, this is a story of a family, religion, politics and love. I think I would have to re-read it to fully understand the structure chosen, but I wouldn’t mind doing so at all.

A compelling book providing perspectives from Nigeria that I had never read before. I found the book to be both insightful and informative.

A truly fantastic book that brought me to tears many many times. Following Kambilis journey through life showed me a whole new perspective on life, family and religion and I loved every second of it. Definitely have a love-hate relationship with this tragic, well-written story.

A beautifully written and touching story about family ties, culture and adolescence. I felt for Kambili in her mixed feelings toward her abusive father. The ending has a twist but is somewhat predictable, although this does not take away from its quality. At times I was confused where the story was going, but it didn’t take me out of the narrative.
