I hate unfinished series... I don't have the patience for them. I literally die inside when I can't pick up the next book and finish a series. I HATE WATING - impatience is NOT an accurate description for how I feel lol.

With that in mind, yeah - I'm not mad at all I picked up this book. It's been on my TBR for a while. I've seen it all across TikTok and everyone says - omg read it! I picked this bad boy up after reading someone's review - Well, what I thought in my mind was a review for this book. You know I'm a fiend for smut, and in my mind, this was the series to start... Of course, I was wrong - there is no smut in this book. Not an ounce. lol I think I hit about the 60% mark when it hit me. By then I was SUPER invested.

This is book hooked me from the beginning. I love a strong FMC. She is a badass, smart-mouthed, hot-tempered, possessive AF woman who does any and everything for those she cares about. The MMC gets on my nerves in the beginning. LOL - I cannot stand self-loathing, but the Author does a fantastic job of giving you perspective, and honestly from the moment this book gets going with the Main Couple - you have NO choice but to root for them.

There were several parts of this book that I put together right away. And several parts of this book shook the shit out of me. You gotta love that about fantasy books. You think they follow a formula and creative authors 100% defy that formula while we obsess over how this story is going to go.

I wouldn't call this a dark romance, I mean - yea, actually it's not. It's a young adult (read 18+) series. Not super smutty, but not void of adult content by any means. The world-building is incredible and the story is predictable and insanely unpredictable all at once. If you're a fan of any of the other "transitioning" YA series with adult content, there is no way you won't dive into these books. Be prepared though, this one ended on one hell of a cliffhanger and I have a feeling they all will. .... Because I have no patience, I IMMEDIATELY picked up book two and started my descent...

This one is totally on me because I had a feeling I wouldn’t vibe with this book but so many people raved about it

[4/5⭐️]

This could just be me and my preference in writing styles but I’m not a fan of the sarcasm characters…
Overall, different world building and you have a badass FMC and a grumpy MMC. The slow burn was definitely slooow but overall so worth it!

Ending was definitely not expected and I’m curious to see how book #2 goes. I felt like the plot twist and the plot overall got confusing towards the end. It was hard to tell what were the conflicts in the story line was supposed to be.

Also - felt like it got repetitive with the “don’t choose me, no one chooses me” between Dianna and Liam. Hate the back and forth repetition.

If this had slightly better pacing and wasn’t so clunky it would be a five star.

I loved the little twist at the end
although that hurt!

Such a great beginning to a series and leaves enough mystery to keep going. I can’t get enough of Liam and Dianna.

DID NOT FINISH

DNF, Goddamn awful!
I tried to read the self-published version in 2023, but the grammar was terrible, and the FMC and the plot were too edgy and insufferable for me. Tried to pick it up again by reading the trad-published version in 2024, yet I still ran into the same issues. Will not be picking up any books from this author, moving forward.

i love a down bad man…
